Looking for a place where history comes alive and nature brings peace? Visit the stronghold in Stradów – a unique archaeological site in the Ponidzie region, awarded the title “Polish Wonder 2025” in the National Geographic Traveler poll.
In the heart of the ancient land of the Vistulans
More than a thousand years ago, Stradów was bustling with life – a fortified settlement where around two thousand people lived. It was one of the largest strongholds in Poland, a strategic point in the Vistulan state.
Today, impressive earth ramparts and vast open space remain, offering breathtaking views over the Nida Valley. Walking along the top of the embankments, you can feel like an explorer – especially at sunset, when the shadows of ancient walls stretch across the grass like echoes of history.
How to get there without a car
- Stradów is located between Busko-Zdrój and Kazimierza Wielka.
- You can reach Busko-Zdrój by train or bus from Kielce, Kraków, or Tarnów.
